Best for: Time Tracking for Agencies
Last updated: July 24, 2026
Clockify's free plan does something almost nothing else in the category does: it supports unlimited users, with real time tracking, reporting, projects and billable rates — where Toggl caps free at five people. Paid tiers are correspondingly cheap, starting around $3.99/user. For freelancers, agencies and small teams tracking hours against projects, it's exceptional value. The key limitation to understand: there's no activity monitoring, app tracking or idle detection on any plan. It records how long work took; it doesn't verify how time was spent.

Free – $14.99/user/mo
A free plan plus four paid tiers, per user per month. Annually: Basic $3.99, Standard $5.49, Pro $7.99, Enterprise $11.99. Monthly: $4.99, $6.99, $9.99, $14.99. That's why two different sets of figures circulate online — annual billing saves around 20%, with Standard the steepest at ~21%.
Yes on users — which is what makes it stand out. No limit on how many people you add, plus core tracking, reporting, projects, billable rates, kiosk, Pomodoro timer and the mobile and desktop apps. For comparison, Toggl Track caps free at five users. For freelancers and small teams tracking hours against projects, the free plan genuinely is the whole product. What it lacks is administration, approvals, invoicing and governance.
Basic adds admin control — bulk edits, adding time for others, project templates, required fields, time audit. Standard is what most growing teams want: invoicing, approvals, time off, attendance and overtime, task rates, and locking time entries. Pro is the profitability tier — labour costs vs billable rates, expenses, scheduling, GPS, screenshots. Enterprise is governance: SSO, audit logs, advanced admin, provisioning.
Only lightly — the most important limitation to understand. Screenshots are available on Pro, but there's no activity level tracking, no app monitoring and no idle detection on any tier. Clockify is fundamentally a timer-based time tracker, not an employee monitoring suite. If your requirement is verifying how staff spend their time rather than recording how long tasks took, you need a dedicated workforce monitoring tool.
Pricing is unusually clean: no setup or implementation fees, no account creation charges, no overage penalties, and paid tiers include a free onboarding session. There's also a saving most people miss — Limited Member seats for kiosk-only workers cost ~$0.79/month, about 80% less than a full seat. The catch is refunds: none except system billing errors, so nothing back for downgrades, removed seats or unused billing periods.
Start monthly, then switch. Annual saves ~20%, which is worth having — but since Clockify doesn't refund downgrades or unused time, committing to a year before confirming the tier fits carries real risk. Run two or three months monthly, confirm you're actually using the features justifying your tier, then move to annual to lock the discount. There's also a 7-day free trial of Pro to test higher-tier features first.
